I sit here at the computer, starting my timer over for the 4th or 5th time, while Gracey is starting her 15 minutes of time out alone in her bedroom. I even went to the trouble and mess of clearing out all of the things in her bedroom that make it fun, just so she wasn't confusing this sentencing with a trip to Disneyland!
It all started as I was finishing my "getting ready" regime...although I am not sure exactly WHAT started it. We were preparing to go to the park for a couple of hours when Gracey began kicking the side of the bathtub, flailing her arms and legs in every direction, and screaming what I can only imagine were 3 year old obsenities in my direction. Looking back, I am pretty sure all I asked of her was to brush her hair.
These tantrums don't happen very often but I can't help but hide a snicker at how ridiculous she can be sometimes. After I told her she lost the priviledge of going to the park, you would think that she had just witnessed the murder of one of her favorite princess dolls. She was running around the house and hiding behind furniture, all while I was taking advantage of the moments she was hiding her face so I could sneak a laugh out.
During all of this, Emily sat happily on the bathroom floor playing with a comb and a cup of water....which is now spilled everywhere.
Hopefully Gracey can earn back her right to the playground this evening, but I am not making promises. I need to get out of the house everyday as much as the girls do and lately the park has been our only place to go. 2 weeks ago, I vowed that I will NOT take the girls to the grocery store, or any store for that matter, for at least a month. It got THAT BAD!
I hear the crying in the other room finally calming and my kitchen timer telling me it is time to spring the kid. Hopefully we can have a rational conversation....and when I mean rational, all I am asking is no more kicking and definitely no more screaming from a certain 3 year old.

Know this, you aren't alone. My kids have had those almost out of body, possessed fits and if it's funny to me for a minute, sometimes it turns scary. They just get so out of control.
When it's all said and done it is almost always over something ridculous, like getting their hair done (No you CANNOT go on errrands looking like a ragamuffin...) Sure you gotta pick your battles, but I draw the line at bed head in public.
Hang in there! I am so sorry that you had to deal with tantrums today, what a great way to wreck your day! The four year old that I babysit had a 45 min. screaming, crying and kicking tantrum yesterday and I was just about ready to call her Mom and tell her to pick her up! Finally she calmed down enough for me to talk to her and start the timeout timer with the threat of "If I even hear a peep out of you until the timer beeps you are not getting out of time out and your ARE going to take a nap!" that seemed to work. She was silent the rest of her time out and an angel the rest of the day!
I am laughing because this very morning we ended up not at the park for this very reason.
kids.
Ya I finally thought it might be a good idea to use this thing. I love to get messages from friends who have their own adorable blogs! Yours is so cute!
NIce..yeah i go to walmart way too much to kill time...!So nice to know I'm not the only one, and when I tell the kids they lost something valuable they do scream even louder..so interesting!!
Oh we have been there. McKelle has her moments of insanity almost daily. She is so stubborn it is crazy. Hope the rest of the day is better. Rachel
Glad to say that the 15 minutes (more like 30 with all the start-overs) really did the trick. She has been calm and sweet since and we have found plenty to do in the house to occupy our day.
It was good to hear from you, I am sorry that you had to deal with tantrums today. Josie is 14 months old and starting to learn the tantrums, and I can say it's not my favorite part of being a mom. Tyler works out of town, and has been gone for two weeks, and I would say we are both ready for him to be home.I don't know how you did it all by yourself.
Sorry about the rough day.:) Thanks for asking how I was feeling... I feel great just really tired so I really can't complain. Also I saw the bridal shower invitations you made for Bailey... they turned out so cute. I was very impressed. Also good luck with being the Primary Pres!! I am sure you'll be great!!!
Oh yes, girls and drama. I can see this fit as if I were there myself ;)
my three year old will be 4 next month and we are going to CELEBRATE leaving behind this particular era of our lives. who said two was bad? apparently someone who didnt have a three year old, right?
I guess I'll enjoy my time with this little guy before the kicking and screaming starts... haha :)
It was so fun seeing you when you came to St. George. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Your girls are so dang cute!
I agree with AM- girls and their drama. Pammie thankfully hasn't been too horrible. Somehow I managed to ingrain yoga breathing into her head. Funny huh. Timeouts don't work for her because she really likes having alone time. I admire you're keeping your sense of humor. That's what makes you so great.
