This Christmas

This Christmas was nice. It is always nice to have Corky home more during the day and we definitely enjoy it when the four of us can just hang out. But I am also glad that we have next year to look forward to. While this wasn't a horrible Christmas, I am hoping next year we can look forward to NOT having to take Emily to the emergency room.

It wasn't a super scary emergency that is often associated with the ER, and had nothing to do with her last visit in February. It just so happened that nothing else is open for appointments on Christmas day. Apparently, croup didn't get the memo that it was supposed to have the day off as well. We had already been dealing with it the best we could since about midnight on Christmas Eve, but poor Emily was struggling. At times, even panicking, and none of us were ready to face another long night of watching her struggle. So we decided to deal with the expensive co-pays and hospital visit, as long as we could get her some steroids to take the swelling down in her airway.

We definitely made the right choice. After the steroids, 2 breathing treatments, and 4 hours later, we were able to come home with a much more comfortable little lady.

Despite all of this happening, we really did have a nice day. Gracey and Emily both loved their presents from Santa Claus. Gracey got just what she wanted, a barbie scooter. Emily just copied her sister's request for a barbie scooter but Santa was smart and brought her a barbie tricycle. She doesn't even know the difference. (clever Santa) But the highlight was when we asked Gracey to let the cat outside and Gracey opened the back door to find a trampoline! It was quite exciting.

Even though the weather was crummy, we all had to jump for a minute. The cool air even relieved Emily's breathing a little bit.

Of course it will be a Christmas that won't be forgotten anytime soon, for the good and the not-so-good. We are still so grateful to spend the time all together. We have so much to be grateful for in our little family. The love is strong, the laughter is loud, and may we never take it for granted.

Stupid croup. I'm so glad you took her in though. I hope she gets all better quickly. Let me tell you...good call on the trampoline!!! It will be your new best friend! I'm so glad we got the kids one for Christmas last year. And with our weather you can practically use it year round!
