You laugh now...

You laugh now, but you will thank me later!!!

I got some lean ground beef on a really great sale so I decided I was going to pressure can most of it. (That way I wouldn't have to use up a lot of freezer space.) With that ground beef, I needed to chop up about 6-7 cups of onions. I love to chop veggies, in a weird way I find it calming and usually I am okay with onions. Today though, I had to chop so much that I couldn't escape getting teary eyed. So teary eyed that I was seeing black...and physically couldn't open my eyes at one point. I tried freezing the onions because I heard that helps, but I was too impatient.

Corky got home for lunch during all of this and suggested that I use my swimming goggles!!! What can I say? I married a genius!

It was funny and we were joking about it, but the reality is that it completely did the trick!! Who knew that swim goggles were so multi-purpose? Keep that in mind next time your eyes are burning of onion!!

Thats really funny! For those of us who dont always have access to goggles, I have found that if I put the onion in the freezer for a couple minutes, then take it out and cut it, no tears! Its a great trick. Cant remember where I heard it though. It works though. You are too funny!

Yes, I did laugh now, but I must admit a very good idea. I don't have any swim goggles, but I may have to look into getting some.

LoVe It! I can never cut an onion with out crying so that is always Chris's job but not anymore! I'll have to try it next time.

I love that you used them and took pictures of you using them! A tip I learned recently as we were making salsa....Poor some white vinegar in a bowl and set it on the counter...For some reason it makes the onions (and peppers) not so strong. I was surprised at how well it worked.

That's the most awesome thing I've seen all week. You know, Tyler once used his goggles during a haircut to keep the hair from getting in his eyes! Very useful little things.

That's awesome. I hate chopping. That's why I have 2 different size food processors. But it still makes my eyes burn when I put onions in it. Great job. I seriously need to ask for that pressure canner for my birthday.

That is awesome. And since we have an abundance of swimming goggles around here, I think I may try to follow your fashionable move!
