This was an excellent book. Very sad, but very thought provoking and moving. I had about 80 pages left and have been anxious to finish it. Not just because I loved the book, but because it was due back at the library yesterday. (oops!) I decided to hit mute on my remote control during the commercials of American Idol tonight so that I could pluck away a little at a time. About half way into the 2 hour show I found myself not caring so much about who was singing what. All I cared to do was finish the book.
I added the movie to our Netflix que. Has anyone seen it? Comments? I hope it's good. I think it was up for Golden Globe or something this past year.
While I surprisingly didn't cry while reading the book, I am sure I will bawl my way through the movie.

I have this one on hold at the library. I just started A Thousand Splendid Suns (by the same author) yesterday. Have you read that one? Thanks for the recommendation--I have been avoiding reading Kite Runner because I heard it was so sad (one scene disturbing, even), but I think I will read it anyway.
I've been wanting to read this book! Glad to read another rave review (I think Emma read it and liked it). Tell us how the movie is!
Oh yes I loved this book, a very favorite of mine. It made me look at things so different & appreciate living in the good old USA. I just started "A Thousand Splendid Suns" last night too & so far I am hooked!
I haven't seen the movie yet. I am going to wait to rent it because I hate crying in public...
Krystal, yes there is one scene that is particularly disturbing. There are a few actually, but those other scenes just paint a harsh reality of a different and wicked culture (Taliban) that so many Afghanis have had to endure.
I've been looking for a new book to read, and I think that I'll have to pick it up this week. Thanks for the tip!
one of my friends has been telling me i have to read this book for awhile now and i keep putting it off because he and i have very different tastes in, well, everything. but now i'll just have to add it to my library.
I just finished A thousand splendid sons and loved it! I can't believe how much I take for granted with our freedoms in America!
Hey, how is your digi scrapbooking going? I never check my myspace anymore, but if you need any help still let me try to help for sure!!! Your blog is darling!
I have been wanting to read this after hearing about the movie and the boys having to go into hiding as a result. I'm so glad you posted a review... I was sort of wanting to hear a review first. I'll have to go pick it up!
I read most of it, then it went overdue at the library and we moved, so I am dying to find out the ending. I loved the other book by the same author too. Let me know how the movie is.
