My tune has changed. Not radically though. I am not scared by any means, nothing remotely scary has happened to make me go private. The thing that is going on though is that Corky's plant that he works for is shutting down. The company itself is doing fine, but they are phasing out the manufacturing plant here in Kingman. That is bad news for nearly 76 local employees, other local businesses, and the community. Luckily for us, Corky is being transferred within the company. He will continue his work as an Operations Manager, still being employed by Southwire.. We are grateful for the opportunity that he has been given to continue working for them. They are a great company that has treated our whole family incredibly well.
With his transfer though, he has gotten a lot of criticism. Understandably, people are upset by this closing and are a little resentful that Corky is being transferred. Of course, there are employees that understand that when the business isn't seeing a profit then changes need to me made. Sadly though, there are plenty of employees who feel entitled and want to put the blame on someone else.
Anyway, Corky has gotten wind that some people who aren't too happy with him, are knowing more about his personal life than he has personally shared. While we have nothing to hide and are proud of our family blog and its content, neither of us feel comfortable knowing that people who don't like us are searching it out. One guy at work came up to Corky and said, "Is it true you were thinking about going to medical school?" If that information was found through our blog, then someone was looking back at posts from over 2 years ago.
Another reason to go private is not just because it is creepy knowing that people who don't like us are looking, but also I want to be sensitive to them. So many people are losing their jobs when the only thing to really blame is the economy. It sucks. We both are sad and worried about their families and hope they can find employment soon after this summer. It would just feel wrong of me to document our move, the job, and this new chapter in our lives that we are so excited for, knowing that people who aren't so fortunate are reading.
With all of that said, I can look back at all the hard work and long hours that Corky has put in (that I usually griped about) and be so grateful. I am so grateful that he has shown his value with this company. We have been truly blessed since Corky made the decision to get out of the army. His hard work and attitude has paid off thus far and we can only pray that the blessings continue to be great!
And now that I have babbled on and on, is anyone curious to where we are moving by the end of the summer?? Huh?? :)
I will let the picture do the talking!

WOW. Kansas?! That's crazy. I know the feeling of having a job still and feeling guilty for it. I have to be careful not to ever mention our work situation on our blog. Suffice to say we are soon to a skeleton crew of a few family members just to stay in business. It's hard to layoff longtime coworkers. Anyway, it is exciting that Corky has proven his value. I'm sure you are so proud. We will miss having you so 'close' though! :(
Oh wow, that is exciting for all your new adventures and blessings, yet dismaying at how Corky's been treated by others. I wish you the best of luck in Kansas! I hope it's a wonderful new place for you guys. Glad I still make the cut to get invited to the blog. ;-)
Well said. I am so glad that Corky was able to get a transfer within his company, and sorry that his co-workers are unhappy about his good fortune in this situation. I think it says a lot about you that you are willing to be so understanding about their situation, while also doing what is best to protect your family right now. Good luck preparing for your move, and always know that you have lots of friends who love and support you! :)
That's soo great that your husband was able to keep his job. And very considerate of you for not wanting to hurt others feelings about it. Good luck with your move - I hope things go well!
Wow! I am so happy for you and Corky and I am sure you will find happiness in Kansas. I do feel bad you won't live close--Eric and I were just talking about making a trip out to see you guys! I know we've been flaky about it, but it's too bad the option isn't on the table anymore.
It was so fun talking to you the other day! We need to do it more! Kansas will for sure be an adventure and I hope you guys end up loving it!
How's the market in Kingman? Do you think you'll be able to sell your house? Or are you going to rent it? Just curious. That would be a major concern in St. George right now if we had to move.
Wow, Kansas!! I think you have a great attitude about everything, Morgan! Good for you. Definitely a little scary about the co-workers, but I can definitely understand to go private. I just hope I remember to come look at your blog :s
I totally understand, I will miss you but Kansas will be lucky to have you, oh BTW I was WAY wrong when I told you all the great stuff Independance had to offer, Independance Missouri DOES have all that... not Ind. Kansas ;) you could always go up for the weekend :)
I am sorry about all the negativity, but excited for you two and your family and the new journey! thanks for inviting me to your blog! Good luck in Kansas!

I don't feel guilty that Corky has a job, I am extremely grateful. I just feel sensitive to those that don't.
As far as our house goes, it is being appraised and Corky's company will most likely purchase it from us. We haven't decided for sure though, we may rent it out. According to a few realtors we have spoken with, 4 bedroom house rentals don't stay empty for long. So we will see. We are confident it will work out just fine.
How exciting moving to Kansas. I was wondering if you'd get to stay in Arizona. I, for one, am all for moving somewhere new in the country. I would love to live outside of Utah someday. I'm sure you guys will love it, and any new community/ward will love having you, too, I'm sure. Nice about the company offering to buy your house, at least that's an option, so you don't feel like you're stuck with it. I can't wait to hear how everything pans out over the next several months :)
wow- big changes! i'm excited that you're excited :)
Wow! That's quite the change. Good luck with it all!
We enjoyed going to the concert with you guys. What a great picture and great way to announce your move!
don't you just love when things work out? I'm so happy to hear that he still has a job. And moving is always an adventure. I'm sure you'll love KS.
holy cow, Kansas! I was secretly hoping for Phoenix :)
A few months ago, Casey begged me to go private with our blog... I almost did. But then I came across a tip that I thought I would pass on (if you ever go public again) I went into "edit posts" and saved each old post as a draft. That way, it can always be re-published, and it is still saved online, but people cant go back into my archives. I have been blogging since 2006 and people can only go back as far as 2009. I have been meaning to go through all my 2009 posts and save them as drafts too, so people can't go back that far either. I have to slurp them to blurb first (for my 2009 book) then they are goners! Its still not quite as good as having a private blog, but it was a compromise between Casey and I. Anyway, hope that makes sense. It does make me feel a little more "private" though.
Kansas! What a fun adventure for you family. How long will you be there for? And congrats on still having a job, you guys deserve it for sure.
Morgan!!! did you know that Kansas is just a wee 25 miles from I?
I must know details. yes. I must.
Although I know how much you loved Kingman. and having familia close.
so fun! i like new adventures!! Goodluck with everything!!
Oh ok, now I am filled in, thanks! It will be a culture shock for you all I PROMISE!!!!!! Good luck with your move and Congrats!
I'm so glad that Corky still has his job! What a relief and what an adventure! Kansas!?! Wow, I hope it's not windy! ;)
Keeping your family safe is definitely the number one priority. Thank you for continuing the blog privately, instead of just shutting down. We love to read about your family and see all the pics of your adorable girls!
Best of luck with the move and job transfer! Can't wait to read all about it! ;)
you look so cute in that picture! i like your pink coat too.
welcome to the midwest! i'm glad corky still has a job with the company, even if it means a move. good luck!
Well, at least you won't be able to say, "We aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto." Maybe you'll just have to say, "We ARE in Kansas, Toto." while you are adjusting to your new home. I bet Jessica F. is way excited to have you in a neighboring state.
It is a blessing to have a steady job. And I think your attitude and awareness of others is very sensitive. You've been working hard and you deserve the transfer.
When's the move?
So excited for you guys! What a blessing too! So just a little note from an experienced out of state landlord. DON'T DO IT! It is soooo stressful not knowing what is going on with your property. Its not like you can just hope in the car and make sure the renters are being decent to your house. We will never have a rental again unless we are within distance to be the ultimate stalkers. But like you said, something will work out either way and maybe you will be blessed with fabulous renters who you don't have to worry about.
Good luck with everything!
good explination--still stinks that you had to go private but with a name like "corky"--you are easily trackable :) Miss you guys but glad to be in the loop! xoxo
