I will start by saying how much I really love conference. I love hearing the talks and reading them later on, and this weekend I am especially glad to finally have DVR because I can re-watch them.*
I am sure people can relate to this more than I really think. You know, trying to concentrate on these beloved leaders and drink up every last word they have to say, knowing someone will say something that is just for you. All while trying to play referee to the two little ones that seem to have a fight over everything they can get their hands on. Then you laugh (and roll your eyes) at yourself because while a church leader on TV is encouraging patience and love, you are screaming "BE QUIET!!!!! YOU'RE DRIVING ME CRAZY!" Yep, that was me. After the first session was over, which I am pretty sure I don't even remember who spoke, I got up and said to Corky sarcastically, "Well that was a good session!" He nicely reminded me that this is just our life right now. I gladly accept (on most days).
So for the 5th and final session of conference, we put the girls down for a nap. Corky and I were excited to have some quiet time to be able to finally focus and listen. Can you guess what happened?? Our quiet 2 hours of spirituality turned into a 2 hour nap. We both woke up during the final choir song and I couldn't believe that it was all over. Something about those General Authorities slow and soothing voices always does it. Apparently President Monson spoke because when I woke up, Gracey was sitting quietly and patiently at the table coloring and she told me that she had just watched him talk.
Of course, as soon as conference was over, both of my girls sat through and watched the entire movie of "The Other Side of Heaven" with us.
*So "re-watching" is probably not the right word. Truth be told, I will be watching some for the first time!

I can totally relate! I felt the same way...and I actually fell asleep during the first session! It is hard with kids running around!
It's nice to know I'm not the only one. :) Thank goodness for DVRs!
This is the exact story my sister told me today! haha :) I don't look forward to these days!
I can't even tell you how identical our day was today!!! I was so mad at myself for falling asleep! But it was nice to snuggle up and take a nap with my hubby....
PS I asked my husband today, why we always fall asleep during conference. He thought the same thing you said...must be the soft soothing voices!!!
I slept through my share of conference too...our beautiful babe didn't let us get too much sleep last night!
Can't wait for the stage of life you are talking about :)
I fell asleep during the last session too! Thank goodness I can watch it this week on the internet!
LOL I can't wait for that :) and yes DVR is one of the greatest inventions EVER!!!
It sounds like you are not alone!
Your account sounded like a repeat of my weekend, too! We slept through the last session too--we went on a really long walk to tire the kids out, and it tired us out instead. :)
TOO FUNNY! It's so true...those soothing voices. We ran into the exact same things this weekend. I'm definitely looking forward to reading them, I get way more out of the talks.
The whole first session I was downstairs with my kids (plus 4 extra) while the other 5 adults were upstairs enjoying it in peace. Seriously? Did I volunteer for that?
LOL! good thing you have DVR so that you can re-watch the ones you slept through!
lol-that was us to a T! I'm glad we aren't the only ones that struggle! I am so grateful for the talks to read them over and over and one day will be grateful for dvr!
We have that little reality check about our stage and phase every conference-- somehow I visualize it like we're on the cover of the FRIEND magazine-- and before it's really going-- there's discord.
Okay, now about The Other Side of Heaven. I have seen it before-- when it came out and didn't remember it. SO we decided to watch it with our kids too. It's got to be "safe" it's on the BYU channel right? So how does, "let's make love" work into that "safe" movie-- it may have gone over your girls heads, but mine are old enough to #1 ask questions about what "his seed is" and two be totally grossed out. Now that would have been nice to remember and fast forward. Lovely. So you know, our nice conference feeling (nice, being relative) went down the tubes with a naked islander and a few choice phrases.
That's a shame because that last session was so very good!
And nothing makes me more mad then watching my husband snooze during conference. He being the preisthood holder in our home, I feel like he should be listening with real intent. So this time as he started to snore.. i YELLED at him to wake up and listen to the prophet!! Ahhhh, it was not funny to me at the moment but we laugh about it now!
And we watched the other side of heaven too. Makes me want to head to a warm island and live forever in grass huts and stuff.
I pretty much ALWAYS doze during at least part of each session I watch. Often, it's because I've rocked myself to sleep in our rocking chair. Hahaha. And I DEFINITELY had those moments of being uber-frustrated with the obnoxious two-year-old, while trying to listen to the inspired words from our spiritual leaders. Hehehe.
