I read quote this morning that said "We cannot run faster than our legs will carry." This quote was referring to cleaning a house one room at a time. I applied to my own life right now.
I have made the mistake of spreading myself pretty thin this week.
One of my new years resolutions this year was to delegate more. This week I failed miserably. Because I committed to all the things that need to be done, they will get done. They HAVE to be done. Next week I will breathe a huge sigh of relief when this weekend is over. I am trying to find the balance at the moment as far as getting the work done and playing with my kids.
Every Thursday we go to the library and today I can think of a million things that NEED to be done that I CAN'T do when I am just sitting there....but library time is important to me and my children. Which one do you think will win? Of course the library time with my girls will win, it will just come at a cost. It means I will be scrambling during the girl's naptime today to etiher sew a blanket (that needs to be done by Saturday), work on sharing time, work on invitations, work on Valentine's Day cards, call the insurance company, call our satellite company, or prepare a talk on the Holy Ghost for a baptism for an 11 year old boy this Saturday.
All these things are important to me, I can't just NOT do some of them. But I don't want to spread myself so thin that I fail at ALL of them.
So after this weekend, I am going to try to remember that I cannot run faster than my legs will carry me. In order to maintain a happy home and a happy self, I need to know my limits.

Oh good luck girl!! I feel that way a lot lately but have few things I could drop. What about dropping the Valentine's cards? That reminds me though that I should have Will start making some for his class so we don't need to buy any.
Let me know if you need some help with anything. I could help you get stuff ready for the card class, if you need it! =)
My aunt tells a story at every baptism in my family.
(This is a very condensed version) She tells a story about a little girl who is scared of ghosts and even though she has been told that The Holy Ghost is good, she is still a little scared to be baptized because she doesn't know if she wants a ghost as her constant companion. Grandma is coming into town for the baptism. So while dad drives to the airport to pick up Grandma, Mom asks the little girl (I wanna say her name is Sally) to go get the comforter out of the closet to go on the guest bed for Grandma's visit. She gets to the closet and then remembers that some people call the Holy Ghost a comforter and she gets scared that maybe there is a ghost in the closet! So she sits next to the closet door until her mom comes to get the comforter herself. When mom opens the closet door Sally braces herself for anything. But then mom pulls out a big comfy quilt and asks Sally to take it to the guest room. While Sally carrys it back she wraps herself in it and is surprised at how warm and soft and safe it feels. That is when Sally realizes that the Holy Ghost really IS a great thing. That the Holy Ghost IS a comforter who can make her feel warm and safe all the time. The next day Sally is baptized and given the gift of the Holy Ghost and she strives from that day forward to live to be worthy of the blessings given to her by the Gift of the Holy Ghost...
You don't need to use that story, but you can. I have always loved it and look forward to my aunt telling my daughter this story when SHE gets baptized. If you feel the need to use this story you can paraphrase it however you like. I am positive this story was at some point published in a church magazine but have NO IDEA when since she used this at my baptism and the baptism of most of my older cousins. So it would have been early 80's or even earlier...
Hopefully you can get all of your stuff done today! Lemme know if I can help at all.
Good luck!! I love that quote!! It is defiantly one that should be taken to heart by all of us! I hope that you survive the week!
Isn't life fun?!? I can't imagine having your calling, because I am not good to delegate tasks either. I hope you can get everything. Worse case scenario, you won't get sleep. Right?!? haha :) Good luck!
Thanks guys for the nice words!
Pam, thanks for that story. I think I might use it. It will be perfect. As a primary, we give each child a "CTR Blanket" (which is the blanket I need to have done by Saturday!) So that story will tie in perfectly with our little gift to him. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
This is a good reminder for me too. Work hard this week and enjoy next week!!! Reward yourself and your girls for the time you put in this week.
Good luck! I'm sure you will do wonderfully at everything. Just make sure you keep your sanity while you do it. ;)

YAY! My awesome cousin helped me find the original story... it was written in 1981. :) It's a bit different than I relayed (from memory) but the message is the same. Good luck.
Wish I had some great words of wisdom, but I seem to be in the same boat lately. I have spread myself WAY to thin this year and am looking forward to the end of school, a change of command, and a do nothing year after May!
Good Luck and you'll pull it off with flying colors!
I hope it all worked out.....I know how that goes with being stretched thin, and trying to find the balance with things that need to be done and playing with my girls! Sometimes, I have to pick and choose! Delegation is not one of my strengths as well. Hang in there!
p.s. we love library time too!
Hi-
This is Hannah over at Safely Gathered In. I'm so sorry that we haven't gotten your emails! In fact, just last week we got a similar note from someone else who has tried to contact us, so we went into our "spam" folder and for some reason, we had a small handful of legitimate emails in there! We answered the ones that were there, but yours may have been permenently deleted already. I'm so sorry!
Please email us one more time and I'll keep my eye out for it. Thanks.
