A new addition.

Yesterday, we added a new member to the Whipple clan. Everybody, meet Penny!

Yesterday we were all out and about running some errands when Corky was going to get his haircut. The girls and I decided to go to the Petco that was in the same shopping center, just to look at the birds, fish, and whatever animals they had. We got there and saw they had an animal adoption agency there with some cats, mostly kittens. We pet a couple here and there but then went on our way looking at the other animals. As we were about to leave Petco, I saw a lady holding a sweet little kitten that was irresistible, and I am not a huge cat-person. So I asked the lady if we could hold her. She sat in Gracey's lap and purred for a good 10 minutes. Then Emily wanted a turn. This kitten continued to purr even though Emily isn't the most gentle with animals. A few minutes later Corky showed up. I made it clear that we were just holding the kitten because I wasn't sure if I even wanted it. When he asked to hold her I thought "uh-oh, we might be getting ourselves a cat today!" We told the lady we would continue running errands and we would think and talk about it.

So we did talk about it. The only thing that seemed to hold us back was the commitment AND our leather couches that we got only a little over a year ago. I decided to call my parents and get their advice. I knew my dad would be all for it but I was sure that my mom would convince me not to. Mainly because her and my step dad's motto's is "life begins when the kids move out and dog dies!" To my surprise, my mom told me that every cat she has ever had was a great experience and she loved them all so much.

So when the girls were taking their naps, I went and picked up our new baby. She has been fixed and has her shots, so that makes us happier too.

Before the girls woke up from their naps, Corky and I got our chance to play with her on our own.

Then we woke up the girls and they both were so happy.

We played with her all night and I think I only heard her not purr one time, when she was in a deep sleep, sleeping cozy among my shoes.

So this is a big deal for us, or me really. After 5 years of marriage, we finally took the plunge and got a pet of our own. I think she feels at home, she slept with me and Corky all night and kept us awake with her purr!

What a cute little kitty. My daughter loves animals. She would die to have a little pet but I am not sure I am up for it. So instead she finds a screw on the ground and carries it around for a week calling it her pet screw. She does this with rocks, little air gun pellets, etc. Your kids are lucky enough to have the real thing! Your hair cut is really cute BTW

Oh, you are so brave. Colby has been trying to convice me to get a dog for almost 3 years now and I'm just not ready to budge. No offense, definitely no cats around here! But your girls will love having someone or something little and real to play with!

I've loved all my cats growing up and got one when I was single who was like Devil Cat--it lasted like 1 month into our marriage and then it was bon voyage--Anson HATED it (within reason, it was not nice). So cats are a no-go with him. I'm way jealous and can't wait for our first official family pet!

I have a feeling that one day we will collapse and give in with a kitten much the same way. Those pictures are so cute. My kids saw them and asked when they will have a kitty. We once took one in for a few days after it found it's way to our house. Will was somewhere between 8 months and a year. They were so cute together and we'd find it in his crib with him a little too often. He was so sad when the owner came to claim it.

You are such a good parent to get your kids a pet. Our poor kids will be deprived their whole lives. I'm not much of a cat fan and Scott isn't much of a dog fan.

Kitty's are cute though when they are little! Good lucky with the new addition!

Very cute Kitty! I would love to have one, but I think my allergies would bother me. I bet your girls are just loving here.
