For 4 years now, since Corky and I have been married, I have owned a large roun
d brush. For 4 years now I have been trying to figure it out! I admit that I don't use it very often so I can't say I have really practiced, but every time I try to use it I get totally frustrated. I have friends who don't go a day without using theirs. They can't imagine life without it. I just don't get it. I always have an excuse for not using it. Here are a some examples.
1- My hair is too long (which is not the case any more)
2- My hair is too short (again, which is not the case anymore)
3- I get too hot using it. The blow dryer seems to blow right in
my face making me sweat and making me feel like I need another shower or some strong face astringent.
4- I can't get my hair to wrap around it.
5- Loose hair wraps around, getting tangled in the handle.
6- Its just faster to blow dry my hair all the way and either flat iron or curl it.
7- My arms get SOOOO TIRED! Isn't that pathetic?? I swear, I work out. My arms aren't all that wimpy but using a round brush to blow dry my hair completely kills my arms.
8- My hair is too thick and I have way too much of it.
9- My hair is too wavy (although I hear a round brush can help with that...but I don't know how to do it)
10- I don't get that "Just left the salon" look that everyone else seems to always get so I just don't try.
Excuses, excuses!!!
Anybody got any tips besides just chucking my brush out the window? It has been taking up space under my bathroom sink for 4 years now and I don't intend on keeping for another 4 years unless I can really figure out how to use it! By the way, my brush is the pink one on the right!

I have the pink brush too! Ever since I learned how to use the dang thing, I cant live with out it! My suggestion is to blow dry your hair so its almost all the way dry without the brush, then section your hair off in parts, and just work with a small amount of hair. once that section is styled, move to the next section! Also, if you use a mousse or other styling product, make sure you dont use too much. otherwise it makes your hair hard to manage! And if all else fails, buy a large flat paddle brush. I can ALMOST get the same outcome with that brush, as I do my round brush!
I never use my round brush. Leah has taken it over as her doll brush and there it sits in her toy box.
I get way hot using my round brush as well! I generally blow dry my hair upside down with a flat paddle brush and then do what Heather said, to section it off & do a little at a time. My arms get tired too but I just chock it up to a good workout! :)
Apparently whatever you're doing is working fine for you so I wouldn't worry too much about it. You always look great!
I don't use round brushes, but my mother did as I grew up. She would do the same thing - blow dry it most the way and then put them in and blow dry it a little. Then walk around the house for a 1/2 hour with the brushes in her hair. Then finish it. I don't know if that is how you are supposed to do it though.
Yep, the ladies have told the secret. Blow dry upside down first (for body) until your hair is almost dry. Then use the round brush. The problem might be that your brush is a little too big.. mine is the size of the blue one. Big, but not too big. I NEVER blowdry without my round brush!
You guys all rock! It gives me a little hope for the future! ;) I will try all my new tips tomorrow!
AMEN! I have yet to figure out how to use mine with success, I'll have to try some of these tricks!
If anyone comes back to read comments, here is another question. After I finish using the brush on a section, do I use the cool setting on my blow dryer before moving onto another piece of hair? Is that what "setting" is?
Mo, I never do a cool setting on mine.. but I have heard that if you do it will hold better. I just use my round brush for volume, and then I flat iron afterwards, so I don't know how much good it would do to cool it!
amen to heather. I cannot live with out my roundbrush. I have been using one since i was 12 though so i have it down pretty good. But I also don't have thick hair like you do. Just keep practicing. You'll get it down. Small sections is the key.
Morgan--for your other question...the cool setting would work but I just wrap my finished sections around velcro rollers until they're cool. (I don't do this everyday...just when I want it to be extra fabulous.)
you are so funny!! I agree, though. I always think I'll use it and ultimately just get lazy. too much work!
I have to admit I am a round brusher too. I don't go on any vacation without it. I use a smaller one for the underneath hair, and a bigger one for the top. If I didn't my hair would be all sorts of frizzy and nappy, in a semi curly-noncurly way. I hope all of that made sense. One suggestion... try doing it in sections. It takes forever, but is a little easier.
Hey, Long time no see. I saw your name on Lindsey Newby's page! I too have the exact same problem and have all the same excuses....all i have to say is good luck!!!
